- Measure motor winding resistance and listen for bearing noise
- Inspect and flow-test lint screen and exhaust vent path
- Test door switch continuity in both open and closed positions

Repair or Replace?
When Repair Makes Sense
- Thermal fuse blown — most common no-heat cause, very affordable repair
- Heating element burned out — standard electric dryer repair
- Drive belt snapped — straightforward part replacement
- Gas igniter weakened — inexpensive to replace
- Drum support rollers worn (squealing) — common preventive repair
When Replacement May Win
- Motor failure on a unit over 10 years old
- Drum tub cracked or rusted through
- Gas valve manifold with multiple failed coils on an aging unit
- Multiple components failing simultaneously — belt, rollers, and motor together

Dryer Repair — Common Questions
Why does my dryer run but produce no heat?
A blown thermal fuse is the most common cause — it is a safety device that opens when the dryer overheats. Replacement is one of the most affordable dryer repairs.
Can a clogged dryer vent cause the thermal fuse to blow?
Yes — a blocked vent is the number one cause of thermal fuse failures. After replacing the fuse we always measure exhaust airflow to make sure the vent is clear.
My gas dryer ignites briefly then the flame goes out — what is wrong?
The gas valve radiant sensor coils are worn. They are inexpensive to replace and this is one of the most common gas dryer repairs.
Is it safe to run a dryer that is making a loud squealing noise?
No. Squealing indicates worn drum support rollers or a worn idler pulley. Continuing to run it can seize the drum or burn out the motor.
How long should a dryer last?
10–13 years for most models. Gas dryers often outlast electric models because the heating component is simpler to replace. Speed Queen and Miele models regularly exceed 15 years.
